Hon. Mumin A. Barre
Mumin has been a resident of Montgomery County, Maryland for more than twenty years. He is widely recognized for his dedication for community service, his experience in civic/political work, and extensive experience in volunteering for local, state and federal political campaigns.
He is the first African immigrant elected in Montgomery County. In 2014, he was elected by the Maryland District 39 Democratic Party voters to represent District 39 on the Montgomery County Democratic Party Central Committee. He leads the Precinct Organization Committee.
Other organizations and groups that he currently serves on include the Montgomery Sister Cities Board, Montgomery County Faith Community Working Group’s Education Committee, and Montgomery County Muslim Council.
He was appointed by Governor O’Malley to serve on the Maryland Governor’s Commission on African Affairs. He was appointed by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett to be the founding Co-Chair of the Montgomery County African Affairs Advisory Group.
He served as the President and Vice-Chair of Montgomery County Muslim Council. He served as a Democratic Precinct Official and the Chair of the Maryland District 39 Democratic Caucus.
Other organizations and groups that he served on include but not limited to the African-American Democratic Club of Montgomery County, John Delaney for Congress (2012) African American Advisory Group, Maryland Democratic Party Continental African Leaders Council, Montgomery County Committee for Ethnic Affairs, Equality for Eid Coalition, Montgomery County Muslim Foundation, and Somali-American Community Association.
Mumin is employed with The Travelers Insurance Company. He served in positions of increasing responsibility to include being a Unit Manager. Currently, he is a Technical Specialist in the Virginia-DC Claim Center.
